God Speaks

I am listening to my book club’s current selection, Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert on cd in my car to and from work. I cleared this with another book clubber –she assured me listening to audiobooks is not cheating–only watching the movie version is. And this audiobook is unabridged which makes it even better.
The book is about a writer who falls on really emotionally desperate times–broken relationships, divorce etc. and the ensuing year of travel she takes to search her soul, mend her heart and find God.
Getting to hear all of these experiences in her own voice, since it’s read by the author, adds another element to the experience.
She is a brilliant, honest, and skilled at her craft. I want to write like her. She describes so many spiritual experiences, and I can relate to her longing for spiritual connections over and over. This afternoon, a thought which is not new to me struck me again. God speaks to me through books. I am the kind of reader that is always examining myself and my experience as I read and it dawned on me again today that God knows what an attentive reader I am, how that is THE WAY I want to spend any extra time I have, so he uses that to connect with me.
I do not believe it is accident or luck that has brought various books into my life at precisely the times I’ve needed some kernel of truth waiting inside.
I love this concept.
I love the idea that God uses anything and everything to meet us where we are. It makes me love Him even more.
What love of yours is God using to commune with you? Have you ever thought of it like this before?
Blessings to you today.

Alli read that book in the time leading up to, and when we were on our trip. She loved it.

I love this book! I too found it helping me in the exact times I needed it. It has been a slow read – not because I didn’t like it (because I adore it) but I believe God was pacing me to read the sections I would need at different parts in my life. I love it! Top 10 for me!
